ORCA donates $900 to

Providence Home

Providence Home_2.png.jpg

Several years ago, Ocean Ridge Charities Association Founding President Mike Gildea and his wife Peggy created a $10,000 endowment for ORCA, with the interest earned earmarked for Brunswick County charities.

Providence Home was chosen by the Gildea's to be the first recipient because of the wonderful work they do providing emergency shelter for teens who cannot remain with their families.

Today was the first disbursement of the interest, resulting in a $900 donation to Providence Home, a 27 year old organization and one of ORCA's first charities.

Below, Mike and Peggy present the check to Executive Director Warren Mortley as the long time colleagues shared a happy moment.

ORCA Donates to Veterans Welcome Home Center during Tiny House Display!

Picture2.jpg

ORCA thanks everyone who came out to see the Tiny House that the Veteran's Welcome Home Center had brought to the Nature Pavilion last week.

There will be 25 of these 12'x18' structures ready for occupancy soon in Myrtle Beach, providing transitional housing for vets until they can get back on their feet.

These homes are built on several acres of land that was donated to them and they are now looking for additional space in Brunswick county to expand the program.

ORCA was happy to present CEO August Savello and Tom Gallinger with a check for $2,325.  This donation was a combination of funds from the Mens Grilled Dinner Group, as well as ORCA's Memorial Fund and our 'Change for Charities' collection boxes located at community merchants.

ORCA Trivia Nite THANK YOU!

winners.jpg

Ocean Ridge Charities Association (ORCA) extends a HUGE Thank You to the 125 Ocean Ridge residents who joined us for Trivia Nite in 'Celebration of the Decades' on April 13th.

Congrats to the winning team (pictured above):  Darlene & Mike Dies, Eileen & John Divers, Kathy & Dave Kaup and Judi & Greg Moore.  They beat the team of Pat & Al Cotrone, Mary & Neal Faulkner, Sage & Steve Grumbach, Pam Jaeger and Ronnie Ambos on a tie breaker!  And, their table also shared the lucky winning ticket in the 50/50 raffle!

But the real winner was LifeCare Memory Partners (a division of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, formerly called Hospice) which received a $5,300 donation in support of their mission dedicated to improving the lives of caregivers & their loved ones living with dementia by providing counseling, education and respite care.  The Sebens won the gift basket generously donated by LifeCare Memory Partners.

Special shout out to the Men's Grilled Dinner Group for the awesome sliders!

And also 'thank you!' to the many ORCA Service Club members who helped decorate, setup, serve and clean up.  You rock!

2024

Ocean Ridge Charities Association (ORCA) is pleased to share that Mary Perno will assume the role of President later this spring, as current President Maggy Schlink prepares to move out of state to be closer to family.

Congrats to Mary, who has been an ORCA board member since 2018 and currently serves as fundraising chair.

ORCA looks forward to continuing its 14 year history as a 501(c)(3), dedicated to supporting charitable efforts in Brunswick County through fundraising and volunteer efforts.

And we thank Maggy for her tireless efforts since the inception of ORCA and we wish her & Bill all the best!
