ORCA Winter Events Raise $8,800
For Warm Homes, Warm Hearts Program
When you are lucky enough to live in Ocean Ridge, the holiday season is just another opportunity for our generous residents to reach deep and help others. The Ocean Ridge Charities Association Inc. (ORCA) Winter Events raised $8,800 for the BEMC program, “Warm Homes, Warm Hearts.” This donation will be DOUBLED by Brunswick Electric, providing approximately $17,600 in utility bill assistance for the needy in Brunswick County. Below are a listing of the events that provided the money for our donation.
In November, we held the Annual Holiday Crafts Fair and received donations of $330 from the vendors.
On Saturday, December 5, ORCA hosted the first ever Holiday Market Place, at the Pavilion, featuring the creations of about 30 OR artisans. Tickets were sold and the items were raffled off with the proceeds going to ORCA. The raffle ticket donations amounted to over $2,300.
On Sunday evening, December 6th, Ocean Ridge residents were treated to breathtaking “Light Up The Night” luminaries and Christmas decorations throughout our community. As we warmed the hearts of our neighborhood, we raised over $4,300 to warm the homes of the neediest in Brunswick County this winter season. Highlights of the evening were the viewing of streets lined with luminaries, decorations and checking out the winning houses of the “Exterior Holiday House Contes,” netting over $100. Over 200 neighbors participated in lighting the luminaries. The lines of cars enjoying the evening seemed endless.
Ocean Ridge Charities Association (ORCA) has received many comments hoping we will do this again next year. Therefore, ORCA has decided to make “LIGHT UP THE NIGHT” an annual holiday event in Ocean Ridge!
Ocean Ridge Quilters raffled off a Christmas themed quilt and table runner. The proceeds of the raffle totaled $1,440.
Thank you all for your generosity, including those who donated to the Annual Appeal. Wishing all our residents and their families a healthy and happy holiday season.
